Share
Valentine's Day is not just a celebration of love but also an opportunity to express creativity and affection through art. This year, make your loved ones feel extra special with a handmade acrylic Valentine's Day card. Our step-by-step guide is perfect for both beginners and intermediate artists looking to add a personal touch to their heartfelt message. Using Benicci's premium art supplies, we’ll walk you through creating a beautiful floral heart card that is sure to capture the spirit of St. Valentine's Day.
🧑🎨 Level: Intermediate
🕑 Estimated time: 45 min
Materials Needed:
- Benicci Acrylic Paint Set of 24 Colors
- Benicci Paint Brush Set of 16
- White paper or cardstock
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Masking tape
- Black liner pen
Step 1: Preparing the Card and Stencil
Begin by marking the middle of your white cardstock and scoring it lightly with a craft knife for a clean fold. Next, fold another piece of paper in half and sketch half a heart on one side. Cut out the heart, creating both a heart shape and a heart stencil.
Use small folded pieces of masking tape to attach the cut-out heart in the center of the card's front side; this will be removed later to reveal a pristine white heart.
Step 2: Painting the Front of the Card
Choose red and pink shades from your Benicci Acrylic Paint Set to mix and create vibrant petals. Paint a floral design around the heart stencil, extending the patterns to the card's edges.
Introduce green for leaves and stems, filling out the composition. When the painting is complete, gently remove the taped heart to unveil a sharp, white heart surrounded by your painted flowers.
☝️Quick tip: Don't hesitate to mix the Benicci acrylic paints to create custom colors. This can add a unique touch to your card, making it even more personalized.
Step 3: Painting the Inside of the Card
Open the card and secure the heart stencil on the inner page. Replicate the floral pattern within the heart, or explore a new design.
Once the inside heart is painted, carefully remove the stencil to reveal your inner heart design, mirroring the front but enclosed within the heart shape.
Step 4: Adding Lettering/Wishes
Personalize your card with a sweet message. For this tutorial, we use “Paint my heart and I paint yours,” written with a black liner. Place “Paint my heart” on the front and “and I paint yours” inside the card.
☝️Quick tip: Feel free to choose your own message or leave it without text for a simple yet elegant look.
Lovely work!
